The
Episode:It is a time of plague and omens in the kingdom. In this atmosphere
of paranoia, the Witchsmeller Pursuivant is called to court, to sniff out the
chief witch and bring an end to the country's bad luck. Inconveniently,
the Witchsmeller decides that Edmund is the Chief Witch, and that Percy and Baldrick
have something a bit witchy about them, too. Review:A marvellous
episode, with a strong script and a superb performance by Frank Finlay as the
Witchsmeller. Elements of the kangaroo court, public hysteria and the misuse of
power are combined with a little bit of witchcraft to provide Edmund with his
closest shave so far. Baldrick's Cunning Plan is tested to destruction,
while Percy's mourning the witch's cat is a moment of pathos we needed at that
time. Credits:
