Randall and Hopkirk - The Original

Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) appeared in 1969-70, and ran for 26 episodes. It came from the same stable as the Saint, Dangerman and The Prisoner, and gained from viewer loyalty to the earlier shows.

While the idea was original, the writers really had little idea what to do with it, and most of the Randall and Hopkirk plots were average at best, feeble at worst.

What saved Randall & Hopkirk (deceased) was the character development, the quirky humour and the originality of the idea.

Despite its limitations, this series had a charm all of its own, and a reputation much bigger than most build over one season.

Randall and Hopkirk Rediscovered

Reeves and Mortimer could have remade Dallas, if they'd wanted to, such was their power at that time; they chose to pay homage to Randall & Hopkirk (deceased) - a semi-successful sixties cult series, and made it their own.

Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) Mark II had better plots, their characters probably more believable, but many argue that they went for the humour a little too much.

You decide!
